Move it!
By Skinny Farmer
Here at Skinny Farmer we are working to start a movement.
Not a political or societal movement.
This is a much more personal movement.
Not THAT personal, silly!
The movement we are talking about is your body. It's time to get up and move it.
An important first step in living a healthier lifestyle is getting up off the couch (or out of bed!), and moving.
You don't have to run a marathon. In fact, for many reasons that might be counter-productive.
Start small.
Take a moment, stand up and stretch. Then take a walk around the room.
Right now.
I'll wait.
Welcome back!
If you cheated and didn't do it, you are only cheating yourself. Why would you do that? I presume part of the reason you are reading this is because you would like to improve your life in some way. Movement is one way to improve your life.
If you are unable to or have great difficulty walking, modify it to something small you can do right now. We can ramp things up after we make some progress.
If you are reading this and it is September, you may know that it is Self-Improvement Month. If it isn't September, no worries. There is no time like the present for Self-Improvement.
Nobody can do it for you. And I hate to say it, but nobody is going to care as much as you do. So take some initiative and start to move. But before you get all crazy with exercise, check with your doctor. Nothing we discuss here at the Skinny Farmer is to be construed as medical advice because we are not doctors.
One of the best exercises for me has always been walking. I find it enjoyable and you can do it just about anywhere. No excuses! You don't need to change into workout gear or buy expensive shoes. Just start walking.
Sometimes I listen to music when I walk. Other times V.G. and I will walk and talk about our day or our plans. I even find it helps me think. I feel refreshed and relaxed after a nice walk.
If there is a medical reason to not walk, find a movement that you like and can do anywhere. Maybe stretching your arms out and twisting for example.
The point is we are designed to move. I found that if I sit too long, it starts to hurt. When I move around, all those little aches and pains seem to subside.
Some more advanced moving that you might want to try would be bicycling, dancing, yoga, running, tennis, or golf. The more you do, the easier it gets. Trust me.
Here is a movement that will really help you with self-improvement: Click the Subscribe button above so you won't miss anything from the Skinny Farmer.
How about you? What type of movement do you enjoy? Tell us in the comments below.
I'll close for now because I've got to move along.
