Derailed is not Failed

By Skinny Farmer

Ok.  I screwed up.

I said it.  You happy?

I'm not.  I'm quite upset about it actually.

I let carbs sneak back into my life and I have only myself to blame.

As you may know, I have been on the Ketogenic diet since the beginning of this year.  I was cruising along, losing weight like crazy, and then I thought I was invincible.  I let myself get sloppy.

I can handle a few carbs.  So I let my guard down and had a few.  And then a few more.

Before I knew it, the cravings were back. Has something like this ever happen to you?

I had been keto-adapted, and now I was falling back into my old ways.  But I'm not going to let it beat me.  I'm going to tell you what I'm going to do about it.

The first step, they say, in solving a problem is realizing and admitting you have one.

Well, that is what I'm doing here.  I am currently addicted to carbs.  Just like the old me was.

What do I need to do?  I have to cut them all out again.

Simple as that.

Right.

That is the crazy thing about carbs: they are experts at mind-control.  They make you think you can't live without them.

You think they will make you feel better.

But you and I know they won't.

Oh they feel great for a moment, when you are actually eating them.  But if you are anything like me, you feel terrible soon after you consume them.

And I don't mean simply feeling guilty.  I mean my body physically feels terrible.  I'll get tired, sluggish, and sometimes my stomach hurts.

If you don't feel that way after eating carbs, I'd like to point out that I didn't used to either....rather, I didn't used to notice it.  When I ate carbs all the time, it was just how I felt.  It was "normal."

It wasn't until I cut out the carbs that I realized how much better I felt and how horrible I had been feeling.  Once I had defeated carbs I looked back and realized that a lot of the problems I thought just came along with "aging" and just being overweight, were related directly to the consumption of carbs.

When I keep my carbs below 20 grams a day, I feel so much better.  I sleep better.  I'm not hungry constantly.  I feel more energized.  I think clearer.  My clothes definitely fit better.  And, it gets easier to eat that way because after a few days, my cravings for carbs go away.

I want to get back to that.  It was great feeling in control.  I like it.

I think you will like it too.

Try cutting back on the carbs.  I'd like to say that you can just cut them a little bit, but I find that doesn't work.  If you have some carbs, you will crave more.  You will just feel like you are denying yourself.

For me, I have to go "all in."  I have to cut them all out to make this work.

So I may have been slightly derailed, but I have not failed.  It will take a little longer for me to get to my goals, but I will get there.  I hope you join us as we strive to live healthier lives.

I'm ready to get to it.  How about you?
